What makes an optimal sunglasses?

When it comes to optimal sportswear, no one can fool us so quickly. But anyone who does a lot of sports knows that it's usually not just the body that needs optimum protection, but also the eyes. And because playing sports in the sun is the most fun, we have expanded our product development and ventured into the exciting world of sunglasses. But what actually makes the optimal sunglasses?

IMPERIA SUNGLASSES

Light protection

The sun can be dangerous not only for our skin, but also for our eyes. In addition to the light that is visible to us, the invisible light - i.e. ultraviolet light, better known as UV radiation - also plays a special role. Especially the UV-A and UV-B radiation can damage the cornea and the lens in the short term, but also in the long term, depending on the duration, even in the shade or on cloudy days.

The brighter the eyes, the more sensitive. Nevertheless, really every guy should protect himself as well as possible from direct sunlight into the eye.

Our eyes have a natural glare protection - we squint our eyes and the pupil shrinks - but this is not enough to guarantee sufficient protection in the long term, especially during sports. The special lenses of sunglasses, which can be divided into 5 categories, help against this:

  • Category 0: Very light filter for light protection
  • Category 1: Bright to medium filter for overcast days
  • Category 2: Dark universal filter for summer in our latitudes.
  • Category 3: Very dark filter for light water surfaces, snow and mountains
  • Category 4: Extremely dark filter for glaciers and high mountains (Not allowed in road traffic!)

The Imperia sunglasses are category 3 sunglasses and offer a very high level of light protection in the field of sports sunglasses. They can be used for just about all endurance sports and ensure that you certainly do not have to worry about your eyes during your session.

Contrast

Our eyes are particularly challenged during sports. They are exposed to constant light and the more intense or faster the sessions become, the faster they have to adapt to changing light conditions. And in the process, they perform at their best: They compensate for glare, sharpen contrasts, and filter out anything that could interfere with our sports session. High performance, in other words! However, this can quickly lead to signs of fatigue.

But not with the optimal sunglasses. Polarizing lenses do much of the filtering work for our eyes. They block out light reflections, increase contrasts and intensify the perception of colors. They make our vision clearer and sharper. The eye tires more slowly and we can concentrate longer during sports.

The Imperia sunglasses offer perfect vision for a wide range of sports thanks to their polarized lenses. No more reflections on the road, intense colors on the mountain and brilliant contrasts on the powder descent. Sounds ingenious? It is!

Color

The color makes the difference! And not only in the design. Because the color of the lens also has an effect on the function of the sunglasses. The Imperia sunglasses are available in two lens variants:

The orange glass offers maximum contrast. It ensures optimum visibility and clarity in sunny, cloudy or even foggy conditions. Orange is particularly suitable for mountain sports, when it changes between sun and shady forest with the mountain bike or ski touring on cloudy days, where you want increased contrast.

The black glass reduces the intensity of solar radiation and very accurately reproduces the colors of the environment. Black is especially suitable for particularly sunny days where you should not compromise on protection.

Even though the protection of the two glasses does not differ, the orange glass is nevertheless more suitable for more universal use and the black glass for particularly bright and intensive use.

Protection from wind and other external influences

Not only contact lens wearers know how unpleasant wind can be in the eyes. Dry or watery eyes, redness and itching can become real torment after long bike rides or windy mountain tours. The optimal sports sunglasses are therefore shaped so that they completely enclose the eyes and allow as little (driving) wind as possible to penetrate to the eyes.

The special shape of the Imperia sunglasses was designed so that they not only front, but also laterally optimally closes and so disturbing wind and drafts no chance.

Robustness

If you're outdoors a lot, you have to be able to rely on your equipment. Because only if you concentrate completely on yourself can you deliver your best performance.

To guarantee this, we have chosen a full frame for the Imperia sunglasses. This consists of a particularly stable material mix, which nevertheless offers the certain flexibility that you need for your sport.

Thanks to a dirt- and water-repellent coating, the lenses ensure a clear field of vision, even when it gets dirty. In addition, the lenses as well as the frame are shatterproof and never pose a danger to you.

Comfort

The best glasses won't do you any good if they don't fit you. But there are some ways to improve the comfort of sunglasses for as many head shapes as possible.

When developing the Imperia sunglasses, it was especially important to us that they fit everyone (and woman) well. That's why we tinkered with the frame design until they really fit well on every head. "One size fits all.

To ensure that they always fit well, even during intense sessions or jerky movements, the temples have been rubberized on the inside and a rubberized and flexible nose pad has been installed. Thanks to the particularly large field of vision, you always have everything in view and can rely on your sunglasses even at high speeds.

Categorization

In the EU, the CE mark is considered a seal of quality for sunglasses. It guarantees the EU standards and the desired protection and distinguishes high-quality glasses from, for example, inexpensive models that are of only tinted and offer no real protection.
